Þorrablót TorontoÞing 2017
April 8, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Appetizers, Cash Bar 6:00 PM Dinner 7:30 PM
Þorrablót (Thorrablot) began as a sacrificial midwinter festival offered to the gods in ancient pagan Iceland. In the mid twentieth century an inventive restaurant owner in Iceland created a buzz with his midwinter menu of foods preserved in the old traditional methods of the autumn slaughter season. The Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto has continued this tradition since 1959!
Join us! Our beloved Þorrablót has become a raved about and wildly anticipated event as well as an open hearted meeting place for both the Icelandic-Canadian community and Icelandic enthusiasts inspired by culture, sagas, songs and feasting!
Our expansive all ages entertainment program features new musical performances by Lindy Vopnfjörð and Sigrún Stella Bessason, Fundraising Live Auction with Linda Lundström in support of youth scholarships, and food menu by Arden Jackson showcasing our preserved customs and traditions with contemporary interpretations. And many more delightful surprises!
Get excited! Get hungry! There will be Hangikjöt Smoked Lamb, Rúllupylsa Rolled Spice Lamb, Fresh Roasted Lamb, Graflax Cured Salmon, Smoked Salmon, Fresh Poached Salmon, Grilled Chicken, Variety of Vegetarian Options, Salads, Fresh Breads. Many delicious specialty desserts including Pönnukökur, Kleinur, and so much more! (And of course Vínarterta!)
